About

Scott Matson

I’m a drummer and author, and the Assistant Pastor of Mission at Jacksonville Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, OR. I study foreign and biblical languages, love to travel, and have been playing the drums for thirty years.

My academic interests include Church history and historical theology, biblical languages, the cultural background of Scripture, and especially missions (particularly how the Mission of God informs the Church’s mandate on earth).

I am very passionate about equipping believers for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:12) and it’s my goal to help every Christian understand that he or she is a Spirit-filled, Christ-sent missionary to their sphere of influence.

I am a graduate of Multnomah Biblical Seminary with a Master of Arts degree in Biblical Studies, with aspirations to (someday) pursue a Ph.D. In 2022 I become an ordained pastor in our denomination, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

And of course I’m always drumming, both in church and on session recordings for various projects. Additionally, my podcast Centuries and Saints has my teachings and sermons and I was formerly the Protestant voice of the Ecumenical Dialogue Podcast, where I and two friends (one Eastern Orthodox and the other Roman Catholic) discussed similarities and differences between our respective Christian traditions.

My wife Meridith and I (check out her blog!) have been married for seven years and live in Medford, OR. She is AMAZING! Married life is such a joy, and we’ve been blessed with two wonderful children, a son and a daughter.
